Mike started out as a professional engineer who emigrated to the US from the Former USSR. He started the business when he realized what a bad job other garages were doing with repair work on his cars. He approaches every problem as an engineer. The right answer isn't always to replace parts until the problem goes away, and Mike knows this. You will not find another shop in the Capital District that knows as much about Saabs, Volvos, Mercedes, and Bosch engine control systems as his does.

I absolutely love this place. It's run by a husband and wife team, originally from Russia, both Univeristy educated but did auto work for a hobby. Here in the US realized there was more money in auto repair so went into it full time. The way they take care of the customer is better than most doctor's offices I've been to. And they charge reasonable rates! They specialize in foreign makes but will work on anything. They always give fair and accurate advice and appointments. What more can I say? They have letters of thanks from customers on the wall, a Jaguar engine coffee table and photos of an art piece with Yugos made into various objects.

My Dad's been going to Mike Levin with his Volvo for the last 8 years. When I inherited my Dad's Volvo at 255,000 miles, and brought it in to Mike for a tune-up, I understood why my Dad became such a loyal customer. Mikhail Levin-owner of Capitol Mechanics, treated me very fairly. I have a classic 900 SAAB that needed some work. For the repairs that I could perform myself, Mikhail actually gave me a lot of used parts and advice to get my SAAB in working order again. I also have a couple of friends that have taken their SAABs to him as well, and they have been completely satisfied with the service they received. I would not hesitate to take my SAAB back to him. I would not think of taking my car anywhere else. If not for Mike, Tina and their staff, I would not be driving another Mercedes. They know and appreciate automobiles. I have been going there for 5 years and have recommended them to everyone I know.

This is the best car repair place I have seen, and I moved around quite a bit around the country, seeing a lot of car mechanics in the process. Mike managed to put together a team of top-rated mechanics specializing in imported cars, and it seems that there is no such problem, small or big, that they could not handle successfully. I have four cars in the household, and they all have been through Mike's hands with great success. I am convinced that I have saved thousands of dollars thanks to their thoughtful and budget- oriented attitude. I have an older 940 Volvo, which developed what appeared to be an unsolvable problem. Three different "Volvo specialists", including a Volvo dealership, had given up on the car; the dealership mechanic simply recommended to take the car to a junk yard. Then I took the car to Mike, and they fixed it literally in a couple of hours! The car is now in great shape (thanks to Mike and his team), and I expect it to run for at least another 100K miles. Overall, consider yourself lucky if your car is in Mike's shop. I would never go anywhere else, even for a small repair.

I have serviced my cars at Capitol Mechanics Inc. for over 10 years. The shop is truly one of a kind - with an emphasis in understanding and prioritizing safety and maintenance issues. The main thing is that Mike and Tina take the time to explain what needs to be done - in a way that makes sense. Currently, I own a Saab 9-3 and a Honda Odyssey - both are serviced at this shop. I wouldn't trust my family's vehicles with anyone else.

Mike and his wife treated me very well and they fixed my BMW which was sitting 6 years in the garage with a blown engine. You can tell Mike loves cars when you speak with him and he can explain the details of the repair so anyone can understand it. Capitol Mechanics rebuilt the engine and fixed some other minor problems and got my convertible back on the road in time for me to enjoy the spring weather.

Mike will readily discuss not only YOUR car, but seems to enjoy discussing automotive mechanics in general, and is very forthcoming with information. He never seems like he's trying to get away from you, and will answer any and all questions you have. In fact, he'll usually give you so much information that it amounts to a lesson. I find it reassuring that he practically shows off about how much he knows about your car. I trust these guys.

My Saturns throttle control was behaving badly, leaving with no throttle control at times other than shutting the car off to stop her. Problem was it only occurred at random. Mike and his staff had my car in the shop a few times and spent many hours working to locate the culprit. There hard work paid off the car runs like like new and gives me no trouble. Because of there efforts I feel safe driving my car again. Would send anyone to Capitol Mechanics with complete confidence. For me it's the only shop I use.
